If we compare the first half with previous years we see that total investment is still high compared to previous years but the number of deals is down.
- 2019 H1 - 1.97B in 289 deals
- 2020 H1 - 2.5B in 293 deals
- 2021 H1 - 7.4B in 378 deals
- 2022 H1 - 6.8B in 274 deals
If we look at the first half of 2022 from a deal size perspective, the average Pre-Seed round size is up 42% over 2021, the average Seed round size is up 12% over 2021, and the average Series A round size is up 11% over 2021. Based on deal size increases, the current market conditions, the highest amount of committed funding that VCs have ever attracted (an estimated $300B to $497B in dry powder), along with H1 trends, we project a year of lower overall deal count but total dollars invested as well as deal sizes will remain high for longer runways and acquisition opportunities.
